Museums & Galleries
Crossville and Cumberland County offer many venues for art lovers. Visitors can browse displays of local artwork at Crossville City Hall, the Palace Theatre and many other local downtown businesses. There are several museums available full of rich history and culture including the Homestead Tower Museum, Pioneer Hall Museum and the Upper Cumberland Military Museum.
Art Guild of Fairfield Glade
The Art Guild of Fairfield Glade holds several art shows, receptions, studio tours, classes and sponsors trips to area galleries and points of interest. The Art Guild recently introduced the Plateau Creative Arts Center which offers education and outreach for area artists and Cumberland County Schools. They also offer workshops at a satellite center at the Fairfield Glade Conference Center.
Cumberland Artisans for Creative Expression (CACE)
The Cumberland Artisans for Creative Expression (CACE) produces several events throughout the year. One of CACE's major events is the Artisans Expo with juried fine arts and fine crafts along with musical entertainment. Each spring CACE sponsors a Youth Expo exhibiting the visual, performing, and literary art of Cumberland County students.
Historic Homesteads Tower & Museum
The tower was constructed in 1937-38 to house the government administrative offices of the Cumberland Homesteads, a New Deal subsistence homesteading program of the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration during the Great Depression. The building was opened as a museum in 1984 and now exhibits a collection of photos, documents and artifacts from the 1930's and 1940's when the community was developing. Visitors are invited to browse the gift shop or climb the 97 steps to the lookout platform to view the vista at the top.
Pioneer Hall Museum
Pioneer Hall Museum is a museum of local history with exhibits representative of the lifestyle of early Pleasant Hill and surrounding Cumberland County, which includes a country store, country kitchen dormitory rooms, crafts and two large galleries. Many of the exhibits share with you memories of Pleasant Hill Academy which was established in 1884 and closed in 1947. Pioneer Hall was the first dormitory of the Academy and built in 1887. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
Upper Cumberland Military Memorial Museum
The Museum is located in the restored 2nd Cumberland County Courthouse. The Museum features displays and artifacts associated with Cumberland County's involvement in military conflicts beginning with the War Between the States. There are exhibits of general interest from all American fought wars, including the Iraq War. For more information, please call (931) 456-5520.
